seasons of hurricanes
It was the hurricane season of 2004. Florida was shaken up by four hurricanes within a six week period. One in every 4 homes damaged and lives challenged beyond normal resolve. Even the faith of the "strong" was tested and reproved during this trial.
One chilly morning in September, I was mediating on the goodness of the Lord, while sitting on what was left of our backyard patio. The Lord took my attention to my favorite tree which stood ravaged by the winds of Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. It was dry and barren. Its leaves blown away and no signs of life remain.
The Lord impressed upon my heart the parallel between what the Hurricanes had done to that tree with what Satan does with sin in our lives. He blows through with promises of pleasure and wealth which leaves us spiritually dead, fruitless and barren. The sin that so easily beset us, destroys our ability to bear fruit for the Lord (Hebrew 12:1). Like my favorite tree, we are left standing, but are useless, dead and dry inside.
Fortunately, there isn't much hope for my favorite tree, but there is hope for us. While the tree was eventually cut down, never to recover, sin can be cut off through the blood of Jesus Christ as we confess it, repent and accept His forgiveness. He will not only forgive us, but will also cleanse us from all unrighteousness and bring newness of life (1John 1:9).
If it seems that your life has been destroyed by the windstorms of sin, take shelter in the arms of Jesus Christ. He will cause your old life to pass away and recreate you into a new creature in Christ (1 Corinthians 5:17). You can begin again.
