THE HEART OF A WIFE

FOR HER HUSBAND

James 4:3-7

My heart today is to encourage every wife who travails in prayer for the spiritual life of her husband.  I am a fellow trailblazer and am familiar with the tears and prayers of your heart.   Please know this, as I have to remind myself daily, that Jesus is listening and working in your situation.

Talk about a light bulb experience. Today, while pondering over why it seems this particular type of prayer is long to be answered, I realize that perhaps the reason is that I am praying "amiss," according to the desires of my heart, to filfull the desires of my flesh.

This is an old trick of the enemy to cause discouragement and strife to live in our hearts. We become upset and begin to sulk and complain. This fills us with ugly feelings and a bad attitude causing disharmony in the home. As an alternative, should we rather submit ourselves to God, through prayer, contemplation and study of His Word, drawing near to Him and allowing Him to draw near to us in order to cleanse and purify our hearts.

I decided right away to humble myself in the sight of God, allowing Him to work with my husband at His own pace and in His own time.  It was enough work for me to seek to love my husband as God has directed me to do.  By doing so, perhaps He will lift me and my situation up and things will eventually change.   I confessed my selfish needs and submitted my desires to the Lord and sought to continue to draw nearer and nearer to Him as He worked in my life and my marriage.

The great secret here in drawing near to God is that as we do so, the enemy has to flee. He cannot come close to me if I am close to Jesus. His power is broken and I am free. The closer we draw to God the more our sinfulness is revealed. As we draw to Him, we will see our sins, confess them and be cleansed and purified. What a deal!!!

I once read a wonderful book written by Ellen G. White entitled, Early Writings***, see quote below regarding trials:

"If we overcome our trials and get victory over the temptations of Satan, then we endure the trial of our faith, which is more precious than gold, and are stronger and better prepared to meet the next. But if we sink down and give way to the temptations of Satan, we shall grow weaker and get no reward for the trial and shall not be so well prepared for the next. In this way we shall grow weaker and weaker, until we are led captive by Satan at his will. We must have on the whole armour of God and be ready at any moment for a conflict with the powers of darkness. When temptations and trials rush in upon us, let us go to God and agonise with Him in prayer. He will not turn us away empty, but will give us grace and strength to overcome, and to break the power of the enemy. Oh, that all could see these things in their true light and endure hardness as good soldiers of Jesus! Then would Israel move forward, strong in God, and in the power of His might. "

One day, I was reading Psalm 126:6 which reads:  "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."  I immediately heard the voice of the Lord, encouraging me to continue forward in prayer and trust.  He hears and answers prayer.

Be encouraged my sister in the Lord, God is willing and able.
